80V is a fully functional MPPT charging controller, which can be used in the voltage range of 6V to 80V solar panels or DC voltage source power supply operation, and to 1.3V lead acid battery or lithium battery charging. The power stage can be easily configured by selecting four MOSFET and one inductor so that the charger can operate normally at VIN above, below or equal to the battery voltage. The device incorporates all the necessary functional components and built-in battery charging algorithm and MPPT control circuit.
True MPPT maximum power point tracking
When the solar panel is used for power supply operation, the driver chip keeps the battery voltage on the maximum power point of the battery board. Even in the shade, when there is more than one local maximum power point (an impact internal bypass diode of the solar panel), driving chip can detect and track the real maximum power point. Figure 2 shows a P-V curve of a common 250W solar panel with 60 cells in the presence of two different light conditions. The maximum power point (200W) appears in the 25V when the panel is illuminated. In the case of partial occlusion, the available power of the 25 V battery board drops to 50W, when the new true maximum power point (W 128) appears at 16V. Note that the original 25V / 200 W power peak actually moved to a local maximum of 32 V / 63 W. The local maximum effect caused a lot of the traditional MPPT controller function of "failure", because they are in the peak power from the initial 25 V / 200 W mobile to 32 V / 63 W cases still follow the former. In contrast, the drive chip can detect the true MPP located at 16 V / 128 W, thus obtaining an additional 65 W power from the solar panel. The device does this by periodically measuring the full power curve of the battery panel and determining the location of the true maximum power peak of the operation. In this case, the charge power extracted from the solar panel is increased by more than two times, and the magnitude of the increase may be greater under other shielding conditions.
